Text Widget
The Text widget displays text on your overlay. It supports both static text and dynamic content using template variables and special functions.
Basic Usage
Add a Text widget and enter your text content. The text renders on your overlay at the position and size you configure.
Template Variables
Use double curly braces to insert dynamic values:
Current viewers: {{viewers}}
Now playing: {{stream_category}}
Available variables include viewer count, sub count, stream title, uptime, and more. See Special Variables for the full list.
Template Functions
Format dynamic values using special functions:
Stream uptime: {{format_duration(stream_uptime)}}
Today is {{weekday}}
See Special Functions for all available functions.
Text Styling
| Property | Description |
|---|---|
| Font | Font family selection |
| Font Size | Size in pixels |
| Font Weight | Boldness (100–900) |
| Color | Text color |
| Outline | Up to two outline colors with adjustable size |
| Drop Shadow | Enable/disable text shadow |
| Text style | Replaces the settings above with a text style |
Text Style
Set Text style to draw the text in a text style, a saved look with outlines, gradients, glow and more. Pick one of your styles or a built-in one, and use Edit style to change it.
With a style set, the style replaces the widget's own font, colour, outline and shadow settings, so those fields hide. These stay:
- Font and Weight, to swap just the typeface. Leave Font empty or Weight on Style default to use the style's.
- Highlight, for text you wrap in
<hl>…</hl>. If the style has marked words, those draw in the style's marked look. If not, they take the Highlight colour.
Edit the style and the widget updates on its own, OBS included. In a Flow Event or Flow Alert, you can bind the style to a flow's parameter with {{flowEvent.style}} or {{flowAlert.style}}. See Flow Event.
Tips
- Use variables to keep content dynamic — manually updated text gets stale
- Test your templates — Preview the overlay to make sure variables resolve correctly
- Font size should be large enough to read on stream (usually 24px+)
